A device.It ejects.
The ejected liquid is simulated — viscosity, opacity, reflectivity, all calibrated so that from a meter away it reads convincingly as the thing it is pretending to be.
The range is 1.4 meters. This is not a symbolic figure. I measured it with a ruler and a stopwatch.
Placement matters. The work is not installed in a white cube. It appears in spaces historically marked by male bodies — spaces whose floors, corners, and urinal ledges have accumulated, year after year, another kind of installation art that nobody has ever called installation art.
Now there is something in these spaces that ejects. It is female.
If you stand within 1.4 meters, you are within her range. You can step back. It is only that stepping back, until now, was never something asked of you.
